'Ear 'Ear!

The human, aka The Staff aka TAT aka Totally Useless, is deaf in one ear and hard of hearing in the other at the moment! I think it's to do with the fact her brain cells are leaking or something! Anyway, you know me, I'm not totally lacking in the milk-of-kitty-kindness department, but this situation has meant some stressful and exceedingly difficult conversations. So, not only is she deficient at reading my body language (true of most humans!), but now she can't even hear my whinging moaning meowinations. How is a kitty supposed to make himself understood?

Picture the scene: I place myself directly in front of human. I point to my mouth.

Me: Any chance of a bite to eat?
She: Eh?
Me: You know! Food?
She: What's that?
Me: I . WOULD . LIKE . SOME . FOOD ......... please!
She: You want to go out?
Me: Read my lips! FEED ME!
She: Eh?
Me: I WANT SOMETHING TO EAT!!!!
She: Its raining!
Me: I'M STARVING TO DEATH HERE!
She: What?
Me: Ok, I'll go out, then!
She: Do you want some food?
Me: ARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!

=^oo^=

The Staff - definitely a work in progress

  5. LOL!! Well, I've got no advice, Austin. Humans (hubums)...what can you do? They are all works in progress and that progress is sluggish! You need to store food supplies.

  6. Just remember, she is only human, so don't hold that against her.

  7. Austin, I do believe Staff has something on her mind... working towards a goal. She needs some time to figure something out. At least that is what I heard... something cool! Maybe she did with that little paw of yours up to your mouth!

  17. Oh dearie me.......she's got to learn sign language - the universal sign for "I'm starving and need food immediately" is PAW OVER MOUTH. I do think you need to enroll her in an intensive course of sign - before you waste away........!

  22. Austin our Mom has many Hearing issues. She is deaf on the right side and has other issues with inner ear problems, so we have to watch out she doesn't fall on us (that has never happened!), so we feel your pain!

  23. We had a cat named Maude many years ago. She was an expert at non verbal communications. She would herd us into the kitchen by wacking us on the ankles as we walked. It was a most effective technique, Austin. You might give it a try next time you're wasting away...

  24. Poor Austin! Our Zoe is the queen of dropping hints. She will just keep making noise and trying to "herd" the humans to whatever it is she wants. This applies to food, turning on the water faucet, opening the window, etc. Maybe she can come help you. MOL.

  25. We have those kind of conversations around here too. Except for the going out part. But Jan isn't hard of hearing. Do you think she could have selective hearing?
